Many places ask holiday rentals to hold a licence, and many don't. Where one is required, the number appears on the listing, and this page shows how to look it up. Most hosts are genuine, and a quick look is simply good practice.
How we help
Where a destination requires a licence, so do we: we ask hosts for the number and check what we can. You don't have to do anything. This page is here in case you'd like to look for yourself.
Type the number from the listing (for example VV-35-2-0000398). We look it up in the Gobierno de Canarias registry, which is updated daily.
Source: Gobierno de Canarias open data (Registro General Turístico), updated daily. Finding a number means it exists, not who owns the home. We show only the island, town and size, not the owner.
Looking for a verified holiday home, or want to list yours?
In Spain each region keeps its own register. These are the official sites. They are in the local language, so your browser's translate button will help.
Use the checker above. The official register itself is only published as a daily-updated spreadsheet.
Open the official list ↗Official search. Choose the activity “viviendas de uso turístico” and the province or town. It doesn't search by number, so match the name and area.
Open the official search ↗Official list of registered tourist accommodation to download and filter (HUTB = Barcelona, HUTG, HUTL, HUTT = other provinces).
Open the official list ↗Official search form of the Consell de Mallorca: type the number or the town, then press “Cerca”. It covers Mallorca only; Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera have their own registers.
Open the official search ↗Official directory of registered accommodation to download and filter.
Open the official list ↗Official list of tourist housing to download and filter.
Open the official list ↗Official list of tourist housing to download and filter.
Open the official list ↗Official list of tourist apartments and housing to download and filter (this site was not reachable when we last checked).
Open the official list ↗For these regions we could not confirm a public tool for guests. Ask the host for the number and contact the regional tourism authority to confirm it.
Short-term rentals need an AMA registration number (usually 11 digits) issued by AADE, the tax authority, and shown on the listing. We could not confirm a public lookup tool, so ask the host for the AMA and compare it with the number on the listing.
Every rental needs a CIN (Codice Identificativo Nazionale), issued through the Ministry of Tourism's national database (BDSR), plus any regional code. The CIN must be shown in the advert. The database needs an Italian digital ID to log in, so visitors can't search it: ask the host for the CIN, and for the regional code where one applies.
Ministry of Tourism database (Italian digital ID needed) ↗Ireland is bringing in a national Short-Term Letting Register run by Fáilte Ireland. Each unit will get a registration number to show on its listing. At the time of writing, Fáilte Ireland says registration has not opened yet and there is no public search. Check their page for updates.
Fáilte Ireland: Short-Term Letting Register ↗In Toronto, short-term rental operators must register with the City and show the registration number in every listing. Other Ontario towns and other provinces have their own rules. We could not confirm a public lookup, so ask the host for the number and check it with the municipality.
City of Toronto: short-term rentals ↗Hosts must register with NTAK, run by the Hungarian Tourism Agency, and show the registration number in every listing. We could not confirm a public lookup, so ask the host for the number.
Rules differ by country, city and even neighbourhood, and some places need no licence at all, so we can't list them all. Ask the host which licence or permit applies and what its number is, check that it is on the listing, and confirm it with the local council or tourism authority. Where an EU country requires registration, EU rules (Regulation 2024/1028, applying since 20 May 2026) require the registration number to appear in the advert and platforms to check it.
